Two-speed automatic hub

The Bafang hub automatically switches between two gears based on your speed. You notice it as a brief moment when pedaling becomes easier; otherwise, you don’t need to do anything. Two gears is limited compared with a seven-speed hub, but on flat terrain and with assistance up to 25 kilometers per hour, it’s sufficient. Expandable battery

The 37V, 10 amp-hour battery is removable and expandable. The latter is unusual in this class: you can add a second battery if your route gets longer or if you get less range in winter. The stated range is up to 100 kilometers on a single battery, which is optimistic and applies to the lowest assistance setting on flat terrain. In daily use, expect half to two-thirds of that. The stated range is always a test value, so expect somewhat less in practice. Don’t leave the battery outside in freezing temperatures; doing so can reduce its capacity over time.

Torque sensor and belt drive

The torque sensor measures how hard you press the pedals and adjusts the motor accordingly. This provides a smoother ride than a system that engages as soon as the pedals turn, which you notice especially when setting off and at intersections. The belt drive replaces the chain: no lubrication, no rust, and no grease on your clothes. For a bike you use while wearing smart clothes, that is a real advantage over a conventional chain over the course of several years.

MIK system and luggage

The rear rack has a MIK mount, a standard found on many Dutch bicycle brands. Bags, baskets, crates, and child seats with a MIK plate can be clicked on and off in one motion. That is convenient when you take a bag with you in the morning and a crate in the afternoon. The maximum total weight is 150 kilograms, more than enough for a compact bike, so a full shopping bag is no problem for the frame.

One thing to note: it only has front suspension and the wheels are 20 inches, so you will feel prolonged rough road surfaces more than on a bike with large wheels and full suspension.
