Vogue Carry 3 Bafang Max: three-wheeled cargo bike with mid-drive motor

The Carry 3 is VOGUE's three-wheeled cargo bike with two benches in the box. This version has a 250 watt Bafang M400 mid-drive motor. VOGUE states a maximum torque of 80 Nm. A mid-drive motor works through the gears, and you feel that most when pulling away with a full box. The battery is removable, so you charge it indoors while the bike stays outside. VOGUE lists a 13 Ah battery and a range of 45 to 60 kilometres. How far you really get depends on the load, the wind and how much assistance you use.

Riding the Carry 3

You shift with seven Shimano Nexus hub gears, also when standing still at a traffic light. On the handlebar sits a colour display with a USB port, and you choose from five assistance levels. There are disc brakes front and rear. The front fork has no suspension. The lights run on the battery and switch on automatically. An AXA Solid lock is fitted.

A three-wheeler steers differently from a normal bike. You do not lean into the corner. VOGUE writes in the manual that you should brake before the corner and not in it, because a three-wheeler can otherwise tip over. At the front there are two 20 inch wheels, at the back one 26 inch wheel. According to the manual the bike is 230 centimetres long and 82 centimetres wide. So measure your gate or shed first.

How much fits in?

There are two benches with four seat belts, for up to four young children. According to VOGUE each child must weigh between 9 and 36 kilos and be no taller than 140 centimetres. The total weight may be 300 kilos, and that includes the bike itself. The Carry 3 weighs just over 70 kilos, so about 230 kilos are left for you, the children and the groceries.

VOGUE asks for a first service after three months or 500 kilometres. After that every six months or every 500 kilometres. According to VOGUE that maintenance is needed to keep your warranty, and overloading voids it.
