With a folding fatbike that you often slide into a car trunk or storage room, black attracts less attention and shows less road grime. The technology remains unchanged: a 720 watt-hour Samsung battery, ten gears, front and rear suspension, Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, and walk assistance up to 6 kilometers per hour.

Difference from the regular Loop

The Pro has ten gears, while the standard Loop has eight, as well as a higher stated range. Otherwise, they share the folding frame, the 720 watt-hour Samsung battery, and full suspension. More gears mean smaller steps between them, which makes riding a fatbike into a headwind or over a bridge more comfortable. If you only take short rides on flat terrain, the standard version is more than sufficient. It may sound like a minor detail, but it adds up on your daily route.

Walk assistance up to 6 km/h

The handlebar lever propels the electric bike forward at up to 6 kilometers per hour while you walk alongside it. This is permitted under Dutch regulations, because above that speed you must pedal yourself. It is therefore not a throttle for riding away. On a 33-kilogram fatbike, the feature is more practical than it sounds: maneuvering out of a full bike storage area or pushing it up a driveway no longer requires any effort.

Range of the Loop Pro

The 48V Samsung battery with 15 amp-hours, totaling 720 watt-hours, has an impressive stated capacity. Such figures apply to economical riding on flat terrain; realistically, expect eighty to one hundred kilometers, which is still ample for a fatbike. The battery is removable, so you can charge it indoors while the bike is in the shed or folded up in a storage room. That is particularly practical for a bike of this weight. A battery lasts longer if you do not routinely run it completely flat and charge it indoors during winter. The stated range is always a test value, so expect somewhat less in practice.

Folding with full suspension

A folding hinge and a suspension rear triangle in the same frame are technically challenging, because both introduce weak points. That is why Mapfour uses a sturdier frame, which you can see in its 33-kilogram weight. So while it can be folded, it is not practical to carry: this is a bike you slide into a car trunk or store more compactly in a shed. The low step-through frame does make getting on and off easy, including with luggage on the rear. The brake pads and rotors use standard sizes, so they can be replaced at any service point. Hydraulic brakes need bleeding occasionally, but otherwise require little maintenance.

Who is this version for?

For riders who want a fatbike with plenty of range and comfort, in a color that attracts little attention, and who use the folding mechanism to store the bike more easily. The maximum total weight is 150 kilograms. One thing to keep in mind: 33 kilograms is too much to lift every day. If you are looking for something lightweight for the train, you will be better off with a true folding bike. Anyone who rides it daily will notice these trade-offs sooner than someone who only goes for the occasional ride. Consider where you will store the bike, as that often matters more than the specifications.
