The OUXI GT-20 PRO is the further-developed version of the GT-20, with the same motocross-bike shape but a more refined finish and an LCD display with NFC locking. Twenty-inch tires, front and rear suspension, hydraulic brakes on both wheels, and walk assist that pushes the bike alongside you out of a storage facility. On search pages, the main question surrounding this model is whether it is legal, because the GT series is often mentioned in the same breath as the much heavier GT-2000. These are two different bikes, and we explain that difference below.

Is the GT-20 PRO legal in the Netherlands

Yes. This bike has a 250W motor, the assistance cuts out at 25 kilometers per hour, and it will not move forward without pedaling. This means it falls under the regular electric bicycle category: no license plate, no driving license, and no helmet requirement. The confusion arises because the GT-2000 from the same series has a much more powerful motor and is available in a fast version that may only be ridden on private property. The GT-20 PRO is not subject to that discussion and can simply be ridden on the cycle path.

Range and charging

With the 48V 15Ah battery, you can travel approximately 65 kilometers. That figure applies to an average assistance level on flat terrain without much luggage. If you ride in the highest setting or take someone on the rear rack, you will get less. A full charge takes approximately four hours, which is short for this capacity, so you can top it up during the day without having to wait all night. The battery is removable and can be brought indoors if your bike is stored in a shed without a power outlet.

Walk assist and the NFC display

Walk assist pushes the bike forward at up to 6 kilometers per hour while you walk alongside it. This is allowed under Dutch regulations, because above that speed you must pedal yourself. On a fatbike, this feature is more useful than it sounds: maneuvering out of a crowded storage facility or walking up a steep driveway no longer takes any effort. The LCD display shows your speed, assistance level, and battery level, and you unlock it with an NFC card instead of a key.

Brakes, suspension and tires

There are hydraulic disc brakes at the front and rear. They offer better modulation than mechanical brakes and retain their performance in the rain, which is more important for a heavy fatbike than for a city bike. There is also suspension at the front and rear. Together with the wide 20x4.0 tires, it smooths out most road imperfections: tram tracks, speed bumps and loose paving tiles. Shifting is handled by Shimano’s seven-speed drivetrain, more than enough for flat terrain in the Netherlands. The lighting is permanently attached to the bike and runs on the main battery.

Who is the OUXI GT-20 PRO for?

It is approved for two people and suits riders approximately 1.50 to 1.95 meters tall. This makes it popular with schoolchildren and students who ride to school together. The step-over height is high, so you need to swing your leg over the frame. If you prefer an easier step-through, a fatbike with a low step-through is more comfortable. If you mainly want a bike for long daily distances on asphalt, an e-bike with larger wheels is more efficient than a fatbike. For short daily rides within built-up areas, this model is equipped exactly right. If you are unsure about the size, measure your inseam and compare it with the stated values.
