Difference between the S20 Pro and the V20

On paper, they are very similar: 20-inch tires, 250 W, and hydraulic brakes. The difference lies in the battery and the rear suspension. The S20 Pro runs on 48 V 18 Ah, or 864 Wh, compared with the smaller battery in most V20 versions. At the rear, it has a dual suspension system instead of a single one. You notice this mainly in the comfort it provides when carrying a passenger, because that is when the suspension works hardest. If you are simply looking for the familiar V20 appearance, the S20 Pro is a heavier-duty version of the same concept.

Range of the S20 Pro

The stated range is 60 kilometers. That is remarkably honest for an 864 Wh battery, because manufacturers often inflate their figures with a test ride in the lowest setting. So you can expect to actually reach those 60 kilometers in normal use, and more if you ride economically. A full charge takes six hours, so this is a bike you leave connected to the charger overnight. The battery is removable and can be brought indoors when your bike is parked outside.

The throttle up to 6 km/h

The handlebars feature walk assist, also known as walking assistance. It propels the electric bike forward at up to 6 kilometers per hour, allowing you to walk it beside you out of a bike storage area or up a slope. This is permitted under Dutch regulations, because above that speed you have to pedal yourself. It is therefore not a throttle that lets you ride away. On a 35-kilogram bike, the feature is more useful than it sounds, especially when you have to maneuver it out of a crowded bike storage area.

Brakes, suspension, and security

Hydraulic disc brakes at the front and rear, improved compared with the previous version. There is suspension both front and rear, including the dual element at the back. The 20-inch tires are wide enough to smooth out loose paving slabs and cobblestones. Starting is done with an NFC chip instead of a key, meaning there is nothing to lose and hot-wiring the ignition is not an option. The lighting is permanently mounted on the front and rear of the bike.

Who is the S20 Pro for?

Two people can ride it, and the recommended rider height ranges from approximately 1.50 to 1.95 meters, with a maximum total weight of 150 kilograms. This makes it suitable for schoolchildren, students, and anyone who occasionally takes someone along. Two points to note: the step-through height is high, so you have to swing your leg over the frame, and at 35 kilograms, this is not a bike to carry up a staircase. If your only storage space is on the first floor, consider something lighter.
