The OUXI GT16 stands out because of its size. While most fatbikes are fitted with 20-inch tires, this mini model from the GT range rolls on 16-inch wheels in a frame that looks more like a motocross bike than a regular electric bicycle. Low to the ground, short, and easy to turn in a narrow street. We have it in two colors, and both versions feature exactly the same technology. Before ordering, customers almost always ask us three questions: how fast does it go, how far can you ride, and isn't it too small? Here are the answers.

How fast does the OUXI GT16 go?

Up to 25 kilometers per hour, at which point the assistance cuts out. The 250W mid-drive motor only assists while you are pedaling yourself. The only lever on the handlebars is a walk-assist control that helps propel the bike at up to 6 kilometers per hour while you walk alongside it, so you cannot set off without pedaling. This means the GT16 is classified as a regular electric bicycle in the Netherlands, so no registration plate, no helmet requirement, and no legally required insurance. The fact that the bike looks like a motocross bike does not change that. Still, it is worth knowing that its appearance attracts attention, including from people who would rather take your bike with them. We will return to that later.

Range and the battery

The GT16 has a 48V 20Ah lithium-ion battery, providing approximately 80 kilometers per charge. That is the manufacturer's figure under favorable conditions. If you mainly ride in the highest assistance mode, against the wind, with a heavy backpack, you will not reach that distance. For everyday use, count on around sixty to seventy kilometers instead, and you will rarely be caught off guard. You can remove the battery and charge it separately. This is useful if there is no power outlet near your shed or storage area, because you can simply take it indoors.

Brakes, suspension, and handling

There are hydraulic disc brakes at both the front and rear. They require less hand strength than mechanical brakes and remain predictable in the rain. On a short, heavy bike, that matters more than on a long city bike, because your weight shifts forward more quickly. The GT16 also has suspension at both the front and rear. With 16-inch wheels, you naturally feel curbs and cobblestones more strongly than with larger wheels, and the dual suspension takes the edge off them. Shifting is handled by a Shimano seven-speed hub.

GPS tracking and NFC lock

A GPS tracker is included as standard, and you start the bike with an NFC pass instead of a key. No key also means nothing to lose or duplicate. The tracker does not guarantee that your bike will be recovered, but it does give the police something to work with, and insurers appreciate it. For a model as distinctive-looking as the GT16, that is no unnecessary luxury. We deliver the bike with both features activated, so you do not have to order anything extra afterward. An alarm system is part of the standard equipment and responds when someone tries to pull the bike away.

Who is the GT16 for?

The compact frame and 16-inch wheels make it comfortable for shorter riders and for those who mainly take short trips around the city. If you are tall, you will sit somewhat cramped on it, and a 20-inch fatbike will be more comfortable. One more thing to consider: the GT16 has a high step-over, so you have to swing your leg over the frame, and it is designed for one person. If you want to carry a child on the back or take along groceries, it is better to look at a larger model.
