The OUXI GT-20 is the model many people first choose when they discover OUXI, and that comes down to its balance of features and price. A fat bike with 20x4.0 tires, front and rear suspension, hydraulic brakes, and a price that remains reasonable. We sell it in two colors. Is the OUXI GT-20 legal on public roads?

Yes. The motor delivers 250 W, and assistance stops at 25 kilometers per hour. The only lever on the handlebars is a walk-assist function that provides assistance up to 6 kilometers per hour while you walk alongside it, so you cannot set off without pedaling. This means the GT-20 is classified as a regular electric bicycle in the Netherlands: no license plate, driving license, or helmet is required. The fact that the bike looks more rugged than a city bike has no legal bearing. One thing to note: as soon as someone modifies the bike to increase its speed, it no longer falls under that category and your warranty becomes void. We deliver it in its standard configuration, and that is how it is intended to remain.

Range and charging time

The 48V 15Ah lithium-ion battery provides a range of approximately 65 kilometers. This estimate assumes a medium assistance level, flat terrain, and not too much weight. If you always ride with the highest assistance level or take someone on the back, your range will be shorter. A full charge takes approximately four hours, so plug it in at night and it will be ready in the morning. For a commute of around ten kilometers each way, you will need to charge it approximately twice a week this way.

Brakes, suspension, and the 20-inch tires

Hydraulic disc brakes front and rear. On a 43-kilogram bike, that is no unnecessary luxury, because mechanical brakes require quite a lot of squeezing force at this weight and wear out faster. The suspension is fitted both front and rear. Together with the wide 20x4.0 tires, it smooths out most road surfaces, from tram tracks to sunken paving stones. You shift through seven gears. The display shows your speed and battery level, and the lock uses NFC instead of a key.

Two people on the GT-20

The GT-20 is approved for two people and has a long seat and footrests for that purpose. That is precisely why this model is so popular with secondary-school and university students. Keep in mind that your range drops noticeably with a second person and that the bike is harder to steer at low speeds. For a ride to school or the sports club, it works perfectly well. For long distances with two people, I would sooner choose a model with a larger battery.

Who is the GT-20 for?

It suits riders between approximately 1.50 and 1.95 meters tall, so it fits a broad range of people. The step-through height is high: you swing your leg over the frame, which can be difficult when wearing a skirt or if you have a stiff hip. If you would rather avoid that, look for a fat bike with a low step-through. The weight also matters. You cannot simply carry 43 kilograms up a flight of stairs, so a shed or storage room on the ground floor is preferable.
