The ENGWE L20 Boost is the version of ENGWE's best-known fat bike with a 48V 13Ah battery, or 624 watt-hours. What also sets it apart from most fat bikes is the low step-through frame. Range of the L20 Boost

ENGWE claims a range of up to 126 kilometers and adds a margin of its own. That's fair, because such a figure always comes from a test with a lightweight rider using the lowest assistance level on flat terrain. In everyday use, with wind, some luggage, and a normal assistance level, you'll get considerably less. What you can take from it is that, among all fat bikes in this class, the L20 Boost is at the upper end of the range—and that's exactly what the 624 watt-hours are for. For commuting, you'll need to charge it at most once a week.

Low step-through frame and everyday use

With fat bikes, a low step-through frame is the exception rather than the rule. Most models have a high frame that you have to swing your leg over, which can be inconvenient when wearing a skirt, carrying luggage on the rear, or dealing with a stiff hip. With the L20 Boost, you simply step through it. Combined with the included front and rear racks, this makes it practical for shopping and daily trips to work or school. Assistance continues up to 25 kilometers per hour, after which you do the work yourself.

Brakes, suspension, and tires

The L20 Boost uses disc brakes and has front suspension. There is no rear suspension, which you notice on cobblestones and speed bumps, although the wide 20-inch tires absorb some of it through their air volume. For most city rides on asphalt and bike paths, that is sufficient. If you ride long distances every day on poor road surfaces, a model with front and rear suspension will be more comfortable. The bike weighs 34 kilograms and can carry a total weight of up to 140 kilograms, including the rider and luggage.

Can the L20 Boost be folded?

No. The confusion arises because ENGWE also has folding models in its range, including some with a similar appearance. The L20 Boost has a fixed frame, so it cannot be taken in the trunk or on the train. If you want to be able to fold your bike, take a look at the folding bikes from the same brand. For those with a permanent storage space, this is not a drawback, and a fixed frame is also stiffer, which benefits handling when carrying luggage.

Who is the ENGWE L20 Boost for?

Suitable for riders approximately 1.50 to 1.95 meters tall, making it suitable for a broad group. The low step-through makes it more accessible than most fat bikes, and the large battery makes it suitable for somewhat longer daily distances. Two things to know in advance: it only has front suspension, and the warranty covers the moving parts and the battery for one year. If you are looking for maximum comfort on rough road surfaces, consider a model with full suspension.
