The V20 Comfort Pro is the low-step version of the well-known V20 design, and at QM Wheels the same model is also known as the D50. This is useful to know when searching online, as you will find both names used for the same bike. What sets it apart from the standard V20 is precisely its step-through frame: you step straight through it instead of swinging your leg over a high frame. It also comes with front and rear suspension and an integrated battery.

What sets the Comfort Pro apart

The difference is in the step-through design. While the regular V20 has a high frame that you have to swing your leg over, this one lets you simply step through. That may sound like a minor detail until you are carrying luggage on the back, wearing a long coat, or trying to spare your hips. The battery is also built into the frame rather than visibly mounted on it, giving the bike a cleaner look. The rest of the electric bike, from the 20-inch tires to the front and rear suspension, is familiar V20 territory.

Range and charging

The 48V, 15Ah battery is integrated into the frame and has a stated range of approximately 60 kilometers. That figure applies with average assistance on flat terrain and without a passenger. If you carry someone on the back or ride continuously in the highest mode, the range will be lower. Charging takes four to six hours, so you can do it overnight. Because the battery is built into the frame, you bring the bike to the outlet rather than the other way around. The stated range is always a test figure, so expect somewhat less in practice.

Riding with two people

The Comfort Pro is approved for two people, with a maximum total weight of 150 kilograms. Combined with the low-step frame, this works well: with someone riding on the back, mounting a high frame is precisely the most difficult moment. With a passenger, you will notice that steering at low speed becomes heavier and the range drops noticeably. That is no problem for rides to school or the sports club, but it is something to bear in mind on longer trips together.

Brakes, suspension and tires

Hydraulic disc brakes at the front and rear are a good fit for a 38-kilogram bike that can carry two people. They offer better modulation than mechanical brakes and continue working in the rain. There is suspension at both the front and rear, which, together with the wide 20-inch tires, smooths out most uneven road surfaces: speed bumps, tram tracks and loose paving stones. You shift with seven Shimano gears, more than enough for flat terrain in the Netherlands. The lights are permanently mounted and powered by the main battery. Hydraulic brakes need bleeding occasionally; otherwise, they require little maintenance.

Who is the V20 Comfort Pro for?

For riders approximately 1.50 to 1.95 metres tall who want the V20 design without the high frame. The low step-through makes it accessible to a wider range of people, from teenagers to those who want to reduce strain on their hips. One thing to keep in mind: you cannot carry 38 kilograms up a flight of stairs, so you will want ground-floor storage. If you are looking for a bike for long daily distances on asphalt, an e-bike with larger wheels will roll more efficiently.
