Black Friday folding bikes⁵⁷

Buying an electric folding bike on Black Friday: light or sturdy?

You buy a folding bike because it has to fit somewhere: in the boot, on the train, in the hallway or on a small boat. On Black Friday it is tempting to look only at the discount, but with a folding bike, weight and size decide whether you will really use it. This page shows the electric folding bikes that are reduced right now, currently from ENGWE, JOBOBIKE, ADO and Fiido among others. The range changes. All models have a 250 watt motor that assists up to 25 km/h at most. On the compact ENGWE T14 it is 15 km/h. Off-road models that are only allowed on private land are not on this page.

Weight: the biggest difference between folding bikes

Unfolded, folding bikes look alike. Folded, you feel the difference straight away. A compact city folder weighs around 20 kilos: the Fiido D11 weighs 19.5 kilos according to Fiido, the Fiido X 19.8 kilos. Folding fatbikes are much heavier: the ENGWE EP-2 Pro weighs 30 kilos according to ENGWE, the Engine X 31.7 kilos. If you often lift the bike up stairs or into a car, ten kilos makes a big difference. Weight also says something about comfort: the ENGWE Engine X has front and rear suspension according to ENGWE, while the Fiido D11 and Fiido X have none.

Wheel size and tyres

Most reduced folding bikes have 20 inch wheels. With 4 inch fat tyres, as on the folding fatbikes, you ride more calmly over rough roads and kerbs. Narrower tyres roll lighter and make the bike more compact. There are also a few models with 14 inch wheels, the smallest when folded, but less calm on long stretches. Check the folded dimensions on the product page if you have a fixed spot in mind.

Look at the battery too. On many folding bikes it sits in the frame or under the rack and can be removed, handy if you take the bike in a car or camper. Taking it on the train? Check the operator's rules first. How far you get on a full battery depends on your weight, the wind and the assistance level, so compare watt-hours rather than promised kilometres.

Black Friday folding bike deals: test ride and payment

Choose between a high and a low step-through on purpose. Most reduced folding bikes have a high frame, some a low one, which is easier to mount if you stop often. Fold the bike in and out yourself before you decide. You can do that in our shops, including Amstelveen, Apeldoorn, Arnhem, Gouda, Heerenveen, Hellevoetsluis and Tilburg, or at home. Pay at once or in instalments with Klarna, in3 or SprayPay, and insure against theft and damage when you buy.
