Buying a Black Friday bike: start with the kind of bike

Around Black Friday you mostly see discounts. It is more useful to decide first what kind of bike you need, and only then look at the price. You do not need a cargo bike with a big discount if you only ride to work. This page shows all bikes that are reduced right now. Most of them are fatbikes, but you will also find electric bikes, folding bikes, cargo bikes, longtails and skinny bikes. Bikes that may only be ridden on private property, such as the ENGWE X series, are not included. Use the filters to choose type, wheel size or brand. The range changes during the promotion weeks, so what is reduced today may be gone tomorrow.

Fatbike, e-bike or skinny bike?

A fatbike has wide tyres, usually 20 inch. You sit upright, the bike feels stable and you ride easily over kerbs and poor roads. On the other hand, most fatbikes are heavy, often over 30 kg. A regular electric bike with 28 inch wheels rolls more easily over longer distances and is nicer if you ride the same route every day. A skinny bike sits in between. It looks like a fatbike but has narrower tyres, so it feels lighter in corners.

Check the top speed of each bike. Most bikes here assist up to 25 km/h, but not all. According to our product data the ENGWE T14 is limited to 15 km/h and the V20 Pro Mini to 20 km/h. For a compact bike or a smaller rider that can actually be pleasant.

Unsure about size? Check the suitable rider height on the product page. On fatbikes with 20 inch wheels you sit low, which suits smaller riders. If you are tall, also look at models with larger wheels, such as the ENGWE E26 with 26 inch tyres.

Folding bike, cargo bike or longtail: a bike for a job

Sometimes you buy a bike for something specific. An electric folding bike goes in the car, on the train or on a boat, or you keep it in a narrow hallway. Look mainly at weight and folded size, because folding bikes differ a lot there. If it often goes up stairs, every kilo counts.

A cargo bike is usually for the children or the shopping. Two or three wheels is the first choice. A tricycle stays upright at traffic lights, a two-wheeler is narrower and steers like a normal bike. A longtail is in between: a long rear rack that takes one or two child seats or large bags, while the bike stays narrow. For both, check the maximum total weight. The bike itself counts towards it. If it is for children, check which seats and belts come as standard and what you need to buy separately.

Black Friday bikes: test ride, payment and insurance

Take a test ride first. You can do that in our shops, including Amstelveen, Apeldoorn, Arnhem, Gouda, Heerenveen, Hellevoetsluis and Tilburg, or at home. Not every model is at every location, so ask beforehand which bike is there. You can pay in one go or spread the cost with Klarna, in3 or SprayPay. You can insure the bike against theft and damage straight away when you buy it. If you already know which bike you want, put it on your list for 27 November. It gets busy around Black Friday, and popular colours often go first.
